Aboriginal Financial Institution and Microfinance Initiative
The CAIE has been funded by the Gambling community benefit fund to conduct a four month research and feasibility study into the creation of an Indigenous controlled financial institution in SEQ. The study will also research and collate information on the financial aspirations of Indigenous people and what limitations they currently experience within the banking sector. The CAIE has been independently involved in this study for the last few years and is greatly concerned with the poverty stricken conditions of Indigenous people and communities.
The CAIE has also formed a partnership with the Foresterís ANA mutual and has delivered a proposal to the state Government for an Indigenous community economic development model. The negotiations are continuing with this project. The CAIE and Foresterís believe Indigenous people across Queensland, with a little help, have the capacity for economic and social restructuring, which can lead to greater independence.
